The Tallahassee Democrat reports that there has been a significant drop in the number of college students seeking teaching credentials and degrees in the state of Florida over the past 10 years. According to the article, there has been an approximate 25% drop in the number of college students seeking education degrees and teaching credentials statewide. It seems that the teacher shortage is not going to get better any time soon. Perhaps our state and federal politicians will stop and take a look some time and see what a mess our education system is on the verge of becomming.

The number of SAT test takers soared to over 1,475,620 this year, which is a record number. The College Board, which administers the SAT test, has said this indicates more students than ever are adding college plans to their future. I guess nobody is figuring people are taking the SAT for fun these days. One of the most interesting numbers was that 36% of SAT test takers were first-generation college attendees. I think the federal and state governments better take a look at these numbers and realize that there is a need for more colleges and universities in this country with numbers like that.
